Tennessee runs from Appalachian ridgeline in the east to Mississippi River bottomland in the west, with the fertile Central Basin in between, and the riding changes with every step of that descent. Hard mountain trails through dense forest on one end, polished arena work on the other. Farther east, the Cherokee National Forest delivers genuinely rugged mountain riding, with towns like Tellico Plains serving as trailheads. Guest ranches build their programs around this country: guided rides past waterfalls, up to overlooks, into terrain most visitors never see from a car.
