Texas riding

Texas riding covers more ground than most countries. The Piney Woods of East Texas keep riders under dense shade; Big Bend Country strips the landscape down to arid mountains and open sky; the Hill Country rolls out limestone prairie between them. Riders here follow historic cattle trails, cross state parks along rivers like the Brazos and Guadalupe, and move through a horse culture the state never stopped practicing. Whatever kind of riding you're after, a lazy afternoon trail ride or a serious training program, some corner of Texas is built for it.

The operations run the same gamut as the terrain. Guest ranches concentrate in the Hill Country around Bandera and Fredericksburg, running cattle drives and full ranch-life programs for guests who want the West with the bark still on. Around Dallas, Houston, and Austin, the picture shifts: stables and riding academies teach English and Western disciplines at every level and lead guided rides through park systems and private reserves. The old traditions and the show-barn world share the state comfortably.
