  We had the best time over July 4th weekend. Booked ahead by phone, group of 5 families of tent campers. Much easier than trying to find campsites all together in public campground. Our spot was next to the river in pasture area. Live music at night, super friendly crowd. Lots of RVs near the main cabins area. Bathrooms and showers were convenient.

  Totally had a great time!! Steve in the bar was gold. If you're looking for a place to unwind, Defas is your spot. It's laid back and comfortable. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people.

  I went here twice while I was with friends. First time was in the afternoon at the bar. We were playing pool. I got a cider. Maybe this is bad form, but I crushed the can on the floor and put it in my pocket. The floors are concrete, I didn't think it would cause anything remotely damaging. One of the others at the bar spilled a drink on a friend. The bartender was kind of strange about giving change and briefly waved a syringe around but I thought nothing of it, maybe it's for medicine idk. We went to the cafe and the lady was kind, telling us they just opened and that we should be there next morning at 8am for fresh baked cinammon rolls. Cool, so far so good. The next day we went back for the cinnamon rolls. Not only were they not ready, the same lady told us she never made the claim that they'd be ready by 8am. "Just give them about 45 minutes, they're worth it". Considering they just opened, I don't know why she chose to lie instead of just apologizing for an honest mistake. She could have leaned on the fact that they were getting adjusted to the season, it's an honest and completely reasonable detail to mix up on. Instead she chose to effectively call us out on a detail she told us together to our face the prior day. Then comes the bartender from before. He was next to her with a drink. I figured it was soda. The lady who got the time mixed up commented "maybe one of those day drinkers we have working here told you 8am". The bartender gave her a look and that pretty much gave away that the dude was getting lit first thing in the morning. He reminds me of the types you get in the deep South. Everything is a facade of kindness covering layers of passive aggression. The type to say "bless your heart" with zero sincerity. He recognized me and complimented my hat. He repeatedly made a point of reminding me about how I crushed a can on his floor and put it in my pocket. "That's a stellar feller". I feel like that's his version of bless your heart. I took him at face value and thought he was complimenting me at first. Then he said it a second time. Someone in my group tried changing the subject. He repeated it again. By the fourth time I'm laughing nervously because I'm not really sure what's going on, this all seems really awkward. "Don't play stupid now, I see everything that goes on in my ranch, you're a stellar feller." To be fair, I can't read this guy's mind. Maybe he was being genuine and he was drunkenly stumbling over making his point. Maybe he was passive aggressively trying to make an example of me. Whatever his motivations were, I don't care. It was weird, uncomfortable and embarrassing. Unlike the insincere, saccharine sweetness I experienced, I'll genuinely state that this guy is in my prayers. I'm writing this with the motivation to express my disappointment over my experience here. I'm temporarily living nearby and the area is remote. I had my hopes up that I could experience a bit of humanity and convenience with being able to eat here and being a patron. Unfortunately myself and the group I'm with came to the consensus that we're better off staying away from this place. I'll also just say, man I'm sorry for crushing a can on your floor if that was genuinely an issue. If you had the decency to just confront me about it directly, you could have solved the problem and likely would have had a regular customer.

  Absolutely beautiful area! The upkeep of the ranch itself is suffering. The restrooms were disgusting, but thats not why ya go there. Cafe was open. Burgers were amazing. Nice staff.
