Illinois riding splits cleanly in two, and neither half looks like the flat farm state on the license plate. Rolling hills, sandstone bluffs, lakes like Lake Glendale and Cedar Lake, and formations like Garden of the Gods give outfitters and trail-riding stables terrain worth building a business on. Guided rides push through dense hardwoods and along the water, and the whole experience runs rustic, a different country from the mirror-polished arenas up north.
